November 2012 – January 2013     City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program      Philadelphia, PA

Artist Training Program

  • Accepted into the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Training Program which met every Wednesday for three hours from November 14th to January 16th.
  • Classroom workshops included the history of the Mural Arts Program and the community mural process. Trained in areas of budgeting, community meetings, planning, themes, supplies, priming and preparing the cloth, sealing and finishing, and the dedication.
  • Applied these skills in the design, presentation, and creation of my own mural.
  • Participated in the annual “Exhibition of Works” at the Mural Arts Center Gallery.

December 2012                     Bear Tavern Elementary School                       Titusville, NJ  

Though the Decades” Mosaic Mural

  • Assisted Artist in Residence Jessica Gorlin Liddell, Art Teacher Joslyn Johnson, and the staff and students of Bear Tavern Elementary in the creation of a mosaic mural.
  • Prepared tables and materials, demoed slab rolling and how to use tools to create texture, assisted students and teachers with clay tiles and glazing, helped in the loading and unloading of the kiln.
  • Gained experience and knowledge for tools, skills, and techniques used in the clay making process
  • Assisted in the mounting and display of the mosaic mural.

Substitute Teacher                     

  • Assumes the duties of the regular classroom teacher promptly and in accordance with the school rules.
  • Familiarize myself with the school layout, classroom procedures and the emergency exit route.
  • Maintains an accurate attendance report.
  • Maintains normal classroom routines and discipline procedures.
  • Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, and students.
  • Leaves the classroom teacher a detailed report of how the day went. Including, what was accomplished, highlights of the day, students who were helpful, discipline, as well as what action was taken.

March 19 – May 10, 2012              Southern Lehigh High School                 Center Valley, PA

Student Teaching

  • Planned and implemented lessons for grades 10, 11, and 12 which included Photography, Drawing and Painting, Portfolio 1 & 2, and Graphic Design.
  • Assessed student learning through observation, formal and informal assessment, discussion, as well as on rubrics and during class room critiques.
  • Differentiated instruction to meet the varying needs of each student.
  • Used technology to introduce each lesson as well as taught lessons that incorporated Mac applications such as Keynote, Photoshop, InDesign, and Adobe Illustrator.
  • Created and implemented my own lessons as well as planned and taught my Co-ops. Planning included creating lesson plans, handouts, rubrics, PowerPoint’s as well as organizing materials, critiques and class discussions.
  • Prepared and helped install artwork for Southern Lehigh High School and Palisades QR Code project at Penn State Berk’s College.

January 24 – March 9, 2012           Hamburg Area Middle School               Hamburg, PA

Student Teaching                                                                                                                 

  • Taught sixth and eighth grade art for seven weeks where I planned and implemented five of my own lessons and team taught two others.
  • Incorporated technology with the introduction of each lesson as well as showed interactive websites that allowed students to further explore concepts and ideas. Websites were shown through the use of a promethean board.
  • Attended professional development days including in-service, parent teacher conferences, and weekly faulty and enrichment meetings.
  • Created engaging lessons that students could personally connect to and feel proud of.
  • Developed lessons that provided interdisciplinary connections as well as met state standards.
  • Introduced an artist, skill, and technique with each of the five lessons that I taught.
  • Created activities, handouts, and worksheets to go along with each of the 5 lessons I taught. This aided in the assessment of materials as well as class discussion, engagement, and review of materials.
  • Attended and assisted in the annual school art and talent show. Preparation included mounting work as well as cleanup.

Early Field Student       

  • Introduced lessons to classes that included 2D, Painting, and Crafts.
  • Planned and prepared my own lesson “Game of Life” to Painting students. Preparation included, creating a rubric, worksheets, activities, as well as provided materials, images, and an exemplar.
  • Co-taught various lessons that were planned by my cooperating teacher.
  • Was a part of the planning and implementing of a lesson for theannual Hope and Healing Juried Art Show at White Hall High School.
  • Participated in the monthly display of students work as well as the choosing of the artists of the month.

  • Assisted as a one- on- one to special needs students as well as in a resource room setting.

Artist Talk

  • Gave an artist talk to Ms. Cariola’s Timberlane Middle School’s Art One students
  • Planning included presenting my art work as well as discussing content and technique, possible careers in the arts, as well as addressing all student questions.

  • Taught art and fine motors to children going into kindergarten, whose disabilities ranged from mild learning disabilities to autism, and epilepsy.
  • Planned and used materials that were interesting and fun so that students were motivated to learn and engage in art related activities.
  • All activities were hands-on to improve fine motor skills.
