Reading the classroom management chapter became clear to me the importance of building community in the classroom. When students feel connected and valued in the classroom there is a heightened commitment to growth and learning, I also felt this related to the responsibility we have as teachers to expect the same out of all our students no matter the race or ethnicity. My experiences in the field have me thinking about this and how I will provide for those students so that they feel encouraged to excel. As well as showing the art room can be a place where student’s culture can be shared and explored and ideas of community can be learned and fostered. This also makes me want to incorporate more lessons that allow time for students to work together and learn from one another.
