Today I took a trip to Philadelphia and saw the Vincent Van Gogh exhibition “Up Close”. It was a wonderful experience being able to see the work of an artistic genius. The brilliant colors, textures, mood, and expressions of Van Gogh’s paintings were inspiring. I appreciated this artist more for his creativity and his innovation than ever before. I believe every lesson should showcase an artist to allow students to see art can be taken further then the classroom, that you can make a career out of being creative. I also believe in the importance of getting students into gallery spaces and museums to look at work and appreciate it. Seeing a reproduction or web image is nothing like seeing a real work of art in person. Seeing and experiencing art in person would allow students the opportunities to think critically and analyze work in person. It would also allow for engagement and interaction.
